Child maltreatment includes all types of abuse and neglect of a child under the age of 18 by a parent, caregiver, or another person that results in harm or neglect, potential for harm or neglect, or threat of harm to a child.
 
According to the CDC, there are four common types of child maltreatment:
 

1. Physical abuse

2. Sexual abuse

3. Emotional abuse 

4. Neglect

• Child sexual abuse can occur in any community

• Less than 5% of child sexual abuse claims are false or fabricated

• 90% of abuse cases are committed by someone the family knows and trusts

• Youth are 2.5 times more likely to be sexually abused than adults

• More than 70% of children who are sexually abused are abused by a peer

• Youth are the victims in 66% of all sexual offenses reported to law enforcement​
